Green Chicken Tamales
Cooking Demonstration
Saturday, May 2, 2026 – 1:00PM
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo – or any occasion – with this flavorful and educational cooking demonstration featuring traditional Green Chicken Tamales (Tamales de Pollo en Salsa Verde). Whether you’re a seasoned home cook or simply love great food, this engaging event will inspire you to bring the spirit of Cinco de Mayo into your own kitchen. Chef Violeta Trujeque, founder of Violet Velvet Cooking Classes, will guide you through the tamale-making process from start to finish, including preparing masa from scratch, softening and preparing corn husks, making a fresh green salsa, and filling, wrapping, and steaming tamales. And of course, samples will be provided for attendees!
*By participating in this program, attendees acknowledge and accept that Doral Public Library District and Chef Violeta Trujeque are not responsible for any food allergies or reactions.*

The Mind Readers
Thursday, May 7, 2026 – 6:30PM
From Washington Irving Bishop to The Amazing Kreskin, “Mind Readers” have performed feats that were so extraordinary that those witnesses who doubted the demonstrations were dismissed as foolish, or even insane. The mystery proved so difficult to solve, it challenged science, disturbed religion, and bewildered experts in legerdemain. William Pack explores the utterly remarkable lives of these performers and you’ll experience some of their most baffling feats in person.

Small Container Gardening
Featuring the “Hotsy Totsy” Pepper Plant
(Container Gardening Demo)
Thursday, May 28, 2026 – 6:30PM
Watch as Kathleen Obirek shows you how to plant and care for ornamentals using small containers. While planting an ornamental heirloom dwarf “Hotsy Totsy” pepper plant, Kathleen will demonstrate the step-by-step assembly method for successful small container planting. The little pepper plant will also benefit from products she’ll incorporate that will enhance the vigor and production of vivid purple flowers, as well as the purple, orange, yellow, and red fruit that make this little plant so stunning – and delicious.
Everyone will go home with “Hotsy Totsy” seeds and product samples to help you grow your own beautiful plant. One lucky attendee will also win the planted Hotsy Totsy container created during the demonstration!

A Haunted Rustic Retreat
Container Garden Demo
Thursday, October 16 – 6:30pm
Imagine your fall getaway cabin in a secluded area is occupied by a few “friendly” skeletons in your absence. (You can make them go away at any time. Really.)
The real Halloween “treat” is that this succulent garden is planted in a genuine oval Bonsai high-fired stoneware container.
No “tricks”! This creative retreat – complete with skeletons – will be given away as a door prize to one lucky attendee!
